Abyssea (2024) is an acousmatic work created with Ocean Networks Canada’s (ONC) underwater sound collection. Specifically, it uses whale and dolphin vocalizations, recorded with high- frequency hydrophones. The work invites reflection on the fragility of underwater life and the alterations they suffer due to pollution, maritime traffic, and climate change. Abyssea seeks to generate empathy for these species and their environment, calling for a rethinking of our relationship with the oceans and action in defense of their ecological balance.
